is it possible to change a product’s attribute set after i have already assigned it to a particular attribute set? It seems as though I have to delete the item and re-create it with a new attribute set. thanks!

Is there a reference that explains what blocks are available in the core and how to call them?

My template does not have a tag cloud turned on, but I know this is part of the core. How do I find out how to turn it on?

And what about popular extensions? Is there a way to show what block functionality is included with an extension?

I’m using the AW Blog extension, and it seems there is little to no documentation for it. I’d like a block for ‘Latest Posts’. I emailed AW but only got the response, ‘All docs are included in the package’. However, I installed the extension using the Connect Manager. There are no doc files that I can find.

On this note, Magento sure seems to have a loooong way to go as a CMS app. It definitely excels at ecommerce, but as a content system, it is severely lacking. There really should be a graphical way to manage blocks that does not require editing files manually. Maybe this will come in a future version.

How do we know which blocks are available?

I would like to show the “Cross-Sells” not only on the checkout process, but on the product page itself.

What’s neat about the Cross-Sells block is that it includes the “Add To Cart” button. Combine that with the “do not redirect customer to shopping cart” option, and you have a way to inobtrusively add accessories/add-ons/extended warranty to the shopping process.

The question is, how do I migrate the Cross-Sells block to the Product Page?

I would like to display the optional accessories that can be “up-sold” with the items right on the product page – but also let the customer add them to cart without having to go to the accessory’s page.

Unfortunately, Magento doesn’t show the “Add To Cart” button for the items in the “Up-Sells” block, forcing the user to click away from the product page into the up-sell product page.

Is there any way to enable the “Add To Cart” button on the “Up-Sells”?

I’m experiencing a problem I cannot solve, no matter how hard i try First, I’m unable to issue a refund or create a credit memo, as the credit memo button is never visible. I have placed a test order, invoiced and shipped it, and still, no credit memo button. I absolutely cannot issue a refund.

When an order is first placed, status is set to “pending”. As soon as I invoice the order, status changes to “processing”. and then after shipping the order, status remains at “processing”. I can’t get it go to go “Completed”. Perhaps this is related to the credit memo problem I have.

The major online retailers (Target.com, OldNavy) charge tax on shipping for the percentage of the cart that is taxable, Magento taxes the entire shipping charge if a single taxable good is found in the cart. An example would work nice here….

In the cart.

1 x Knife @ $10 = $10
10 x Shirts @ $8 = $80

Subtotal = $90

Shipping $10

Before Tax $100

Tax Rate 10%

Tax $2 = This is what Magento would charge. $10 taxable goods ($1) + $10 total shipping ($1)

Tax $1.11 = This is what it should be. $10 taxable goods ($1) + $1.10 percentage of total shipping ($.11)

I know it’s small change, but there should be a way to take the percentage of the subtotal that is taxable goods and use that percentage to figure out how much of the shipping should be charged.

I just need some direction, please… I feel lost.

Basically I’m working on a module that gives a customer an option to add gift wrapping during the onepage checkout process. I’m up to the point where I need to change the checkout total to reflect the change in price (and of course I would like to do this the right way.)

Looking at the frontend, I want to change this (under Order Review):
Subtotal $54.00
Shipping & Handling (Flat Rate – Fixed) $20.00
Grand Total $74.00

To this:
Subtotal $54.00
Gift Wrap $5.00
Shipping & Handling (Flat Rate – Fixed) $20.00
Grand Total $79.00

I’m sifting through files at this point…

Checkout\Block\Onepage\Review\Info.php
lead me to look at
Sales\Model\Quote.php
And at this point my stomach starts turning just looking at the Sales module. What does the Sales module do? Am I on the right track? Will I need to make changes to modules other than the Checkout module to accomplish what I’m trying to do?

I set up a catalog price rule for testing as follows
Name: Complete Discount
Status: Active
Customer Groups: All selected
Conditions: None
Apply: By percentage
Amount: 50%
Stop further rules: No

I then clicked save and apply but the front end shows no price difference. I tried clearing the cache, nothing. I tried clicking apply again, nothing.

Is there something I am missing?

I’m trying to create a configurable product and I can’t get it to work. Here’s what i’ve done:

1. created new attributes
2. created new attribute set, added new attributes to this set
3. created a bunch of simple products, set their visibility to “nowhere”, and then ensured that they’re enabled.
4. begun the creation process for a new configurable product based on the new attribute set

I go thru the new configurable product creation steps, but when i get to the last tab, “Associated Products”, I can’t get ANY products to show up in the list when i click “search”. no filter option works, nothing is visible. It works fine when i try to create a simple product (all the other products show up in the “related” and “add-on” lists), but doesn’t work with a configurable.

I have been playing around with Magento demo store for a few week now but it is not intuitively obvious to me how everything
plays together. I am disappointed by the level documentation for such a seemingly good platform.

I would like to use the ‘modern’ template/theme for my website.

Questions:
1. How do I replace the demo store with the ‘modern’ template (I believe this is actually an extension). What happens to all the existing
files I have been playing around with (*.xml, *.phtml, *.css, etc.) in the templates/layout etc. directories when I download a new
template?
2. How do I get a three column format as follows: Left col = vertical menu that replicates the current horizontal menu
Middle col = content
Right col= shopping cart etc. etc.
Note that I do not need the horizontal category menu at the top of the page.
3. How do I replace the text links at the top of the page (My Account, My Wishlist,etc. ) with javascript onmouseover images.

Apologies in advance if this has already been covered elsewhere. I am a proficient in php/xml/mysql so am not afraid to dive
into the code.

Not sure if this is a Magento or Authorize.net issue, but when I click “Place Order” on our store, I get a javascript alert saying that the transaction has been approved (see the attached screenshot). The amount is billed and captured in Authorize.net, but the customer never gets to the confirmation page or an e-mail on the site, and the order does not show up in Magento’s admin area.

We’re running Magento 1.3.1 on a VPS. Can someone help?

I’ve enjoyed some of the webinars done for the Magento Commerce product, but I struggled to find ways to create a workable scenario for me.

I need to have the customers and products shared amongst all stores. This seems to be available by using one website, multiple store views.

The fatal issue I’m having right now is that items like inventory and cost are decided at the global level, requiring them to be common and shared by stores.

Frankly, what I’m trying to accomplish is the building of a marketplace in which many sellers may end up selling the exact same product, and the idea of sharing product descriptions is very attractive to me.

What is the best way to accomplish this within Magento?

I want to give magneto a try but I am facing some problems during installation. For some reason I am not able to pass the configuration part. Allready created a db and tested the mysql connection through a PHP script, that part is ok. Mysql user and password are ok.

Every time I want to continue to the ‘ Create admin account ‘ part the page is re-directing me to the configuration screen.

What am I doing wrong.

I am trying to install Magento via SSH to my godaddy account which has PHP 5 on a shared hosting plan.

Using Instructions at
After running: ./pear mage-setup .

I get the below error

Running initial setup…
php: /usr/local/lib/libpng12.so.0: no version information available (required by php)

config-set succeeded

This repeats many times as the setup runs. How do I fix ?

I know the client gets a mail, that you can create templates for that mail and that you can send that mail to yourselff as a copy.

But I want a different template for me, the storeowner. a template with the sku’s and more details, visualized much more compact then the nice graphical mail the client gets.

Is this possible? out of the box or with a plugin? what are the alternatives? has anybody else got this problem?
is there a better way to do this?

I have a new magento store, I created a test product with all the attributes then used system/import-export/profiles to export it.

I then modified the .csv file with all my new products using the exported test product as a template. However, upon importing the products I found the following-

1) The images were not set
2) The custom_design was not set
3) The page_layout was not set

The 2nd two were in completely the same format so I don’t understand why they weren’t imported?

And the images had the correct filesnames and same directory as the test file and the images had been uploaded to the directory where the test image was (media/catalog/product/o/l/) so not sure why that didn’t work either.

Or should the images have been somewhere else and then magento uploads them…?

Anyone know the correct way to import the images?

I’m trying to get the drop down to just display two levels but so far I can’t quite figure out how to do it.

Basically it just needs to drop down to show sub-categories>sub-categories and that’s it.

At the moment it’s showing sub-categories->sub-categories->sub-categories (3 levels)

Any help much appreciated.

I tried changing header.phtml and i tried some changes in top.links.phtml
I simply doesn’t seem to work. At least not aligned properly. Does anybody know where to change what? I just want one small contact link after: My account, Cart, login and so on.

I am trying to add an image to the one column homepage that I have set up currently. My method so far has been to upload the image file to skin/frontend/default/blank/images.

I have then added the text
Into the content block of my homepage content block. Is there any reason why the image isn’t showing here. The magento setup was not a clean install and was installed with sample content, will this effect it?

I’m trying to modify the address format. When I change app/code/core/Mage/Customer/etc/config.xml this works like expected. Since I don’t want to modify core files, I copied this file to app/code/local/Mage/Customer/etc/config.xml and modified it, but somehow this doesn’t reflect any changes?

I’m quite new to magento, I’m I missing something? Should this work or do I need to do something else. Literally the only thing I did was copy the config.xml file and modify it.

We want to use the two-letter name instead of the whole state name in the drop down menus and on the mailing labels. The only solution I found so far was changing the text in the tables directory_country_region and directory_country_region_name. Is there any way to do this short of using PHPMyAdmin to edit all the state names from the state’s full text to the two-letter abbreviation?

Also, we don’t want a comma between the state name and the ZIP code. Is there a way to remove that character?

I have been messing with Magento for a few days now just testing it and uploading various things. My question is How do you all feel about Magento current state?
I have been able to change a lot of things about that look and feel but I am not sure about the admin area and the Pay pal area with accepting payments.
IS there a good site that would help me understand how to integrate pay pal into Magento? I have checked the forums but I need more direct answers kinda like tutorials.

We are looking to create a left hand navigation system exactly like that found on ssense.com. It’s for a clothing store with Magento backend.

Basically the navigation allows you to see products by: 1. Brand, 2. Type and then you can filter each of those by Men or Womens.

What would you suggest is the best way to setup the catalog so we can easily customize our left menu navigation?

When I try to enable the secure frontend the checkout simply redirects back to itself instead of proceeding on to the onepage for finishing the purchase.. With the secure frontend turned off it works fine..
