Magento – Oscommerce migration tool

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by cypher1919 0n January 29 2009

Trying to install oscommerce migration tool, and am getting the error “Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /magento/downloader/pearlib/php/OS/Guess.php on line 245”. I’ve installed magento on a test server b4 putting it on a live server for testing purposes. Test server is a linux box with xampp. As far as I can tell, all permissions are set to 777.

Magento – Kana Cuban Coffee Roasters Store now Launched

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by Kana Cuban Coffee 0n January 29 2009

Build time: 20 hours
Version: 1.2.0.3

Kana Cuban Coffee Roasters chose Magento for its extremely easy back-end interface and unlimited growth potential. We originally had the project setup by an outside company under version 1.1.6 with many customizations which were half implemented. When it came to upgrade the whole system crashed and we had to start completely over. That was two days ago and we had our site down for little over a complete day. With a fresh new start, we decided to undertake the challenge with our in house designer, Christopher Neetz. He was able to get the site up and running very quickly with more features than were originally implemented. We are very pleased and look forward to recommending Magento as a great e-commerce solution.

Magento – Per-store inventory levels

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by gregonaroll 0n January 28 2009

I’m selling my products out of 15 different brick and mortar stores. I want website users to pick a location before navigating to a specific product page since the inventory levels for each product are different between the stores (we don’t ship between stores).

I was under the assumption that I should create 15 (Magento) stores; one for each of my brick and mortar stores. However, it doesn’t appear as though I can control inventory at the store-level.

So here are my questions:
1) Am I able to control inventory at the store-level? Or is there a module to do that?
2) If not, does anyone know of an available module that forces users to pick a location? Picking a location can (in theory) happen at any point in the process, but I will need to display inventory levels accordingly.

Thanks in advance. And my apologies for posting this thread in the wrong forum.

Magento – Upgrade from 1.2.0 to 1.2.0.3 has broken my site

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by rich1231 0n January 25 2009

Some errors appeared (i cant rememeber what they were) and now all pages end in HTTP 500 errors.

My other sites on the server are fine.

I can restore a backup. Mysql restart has had no effect.

Any ideas what to try before a restore is actioned?

Magento – 1 Attribute, 3800 Values A better way?

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by justsuspension 0n January 23 2009

I need a solution (or an alternative methodology) for the following problem. Our shop sells auto parts and we need to be able to sort them according to Year, Make, and Model. Our current approach has been to create three attributes (vehicle_year, vehicle_make, vehicle_model) and combine them into a single attribute set for use in layered navigation.

Year and Make don’t present much of a problem. There’s only about 100 values for vehicle_year and about 250 values for vehicle_make. The problem is vehicle_model. There are about 3800 possible vehicle models, and I simply can’t get Magento to load them all. I’ve manually entered over 1000 values at this point, but the process just continues to crash whenever I try to add more values or edit the existing ones.

Can anyone think of a solution for getting all 3800 values input, or is there a better approach we should be taking?

I’ve wondered about the possibility of having the attribute values come from an XML file… any bright ideas?

Magento – Split Development Cost of cd-fulfillment.com extension-Have CD/DVDs shipped automatically to your customers

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by lbrean 0n January 22 2009

I’m in the process of moving my store over to Magento and sell a number of audio and data CD products. CD-fulfillment can produce a wide range of different styled and packaged CDs and DVDs and can fulfill them world wide. They provide glossy color inkjet printed discs in an envelope for around $4.00 and you can add on more options, like an amaray case with color insert for a few more dollars.

Basically, the extension will send all your orders for discs to CD-fulfillment after payment has been collected and the invoice marked completed. For each disc, you will need to create a simple product with a SKU that corresponds to the CD-fulfillment project number (they assign a project number for each disc you have and each project can vary in the options you choose to have added on to the basic disc).

Right now, I’m fronting the entire cost of the project, but am looking for others who would be interested in contributing to the cost in exchange for access to the code. Let me know if there’s any interest and we can get in touch.

Magento – How advaced are the sales statistics?

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by johanlm 0n January 29 2009

I have checked the featurelist (Analytics and Reporting) + looked into the demo version thats up too. It gives me a basic idea, but that is just about it so I hoped someone could help be clear up some more direct questions of how extensive the statistics/reports can be?

Specific product reports :
There is total reports and best sellers, but is there a way to check the total sale of a specific product in a choosen period of time, as in;
The sold amount of Products X = XXX
Product X sold a total for = ????$

Product Category reports :
Can you get an report of the total sale of all the products in a specific category, as in;
camera bodys (canon, nikon, sony) = ????$
camera lenses (canon, nikon, sony, etc) = ????$

Custommer :
When you look at a custommer (aka manage custommer) you can choose recent orders, is these a total of the order and/or does it also show exactly what each order contained of?

Sales Report:
How indeapth/advanced are these? Only totaly or does it list each products too during the period you choose?

Hope someone can help me out, I tried to get as much info. as I could, but the demo shop don’t really help out much in this subjects since it’s not a “active” store and that is understandable.

I just installed the older version, but am only starting to set it up so haven’t changed any files yet (except time zone etc.). Thought i should upgrade before going further.

Followed JLHC directions: “Go to Magento Connect Manager, input the following code and click “Install”:-

magento-core/Mage_All_Latest”

While all the components seemed to get installed, at the end, got this message:

“Fatal error: Exception thrown without a stack frame in Unknown on line 0”

I attached the whole list documenting the download via Magento Connect. What does this mean and what can i do?

thanks for your help.

Magento – Payflow Pro processing not working after upgrade

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by fishnut 0n January 19 2009

I upgraded to 1.2.0.2 over the weekend, everything went great – mostly- except when I place practice orders and try to checkout I get the error “User authentication failed” I checked my payflow pro information and it is all correct. I even have another store on 1.1.8 using the same credentials and it works, but the upgraded site does not. The site was also working great before the upgrade and I didn’t have any issues with user authentication failed….

Anyone else ran into this problem, or have any solutions?

I talked with Paypal, they recommended resetting my password, I did, updated account setting and it still doesn’t work. Any help would be much appreciated!

Magento – SSL Homepage Redirect

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by cozmir 0n January 15 2009

I upgraded from 1.20 to 1.2.2 today and my store flips over to the home page every time I try to navigate to a SSL page. The site worked perfectly in this regard this morning (before the upgrade). I’ve tried the steps with changing the secure base for the different store views etc.

I’m wondering if something could be cached funky? I manually deleted the var/sessions and var/cache plus repeated refreshing/disable re-enabling the cache through the admin panel.

Can anyone shed some light on anything else I could check. I spent all day on this and now I feel sad. Very sad.

Magento – Categories?

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by bee1 0n January 14 2009

If I just don’t know what I am doing PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO DO THIS…otherwise this is my biggest request of all time to Magento
When creating categories, based on what I know, you must create the category then put product into the category which works beautifully if you want to load one product at a time…however, when you are loading, let’s say 300 hundred products at a time (all in different cateogries) it becomes a real challenge. The only way to successfully put new products into categories while uploading them would be first to define a product within that category and then get the category number…but, what if when you upload new product you also have new categories…

IT WOULD BE SUPER AWESOME if
IDEAL
We could “create” new categories when we upload new products. Basically this would require that all new categories were set up with a set of default parameters which could be editied later so that if you have 20 new categories in an upload with 20 products a piece you would simply “name” the new category and then the category would be automatically created and products added to it.

NOT SO IDEAL
We could see the category name in the product upload sheet instead of just a number. This would allow us to create categories (all at one time) then assign products to those categories based on the name (without having to know/add a product to that category first).

Like I said, if there is a way to do this already…SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME because I’ve been driving myself crazy!!! IF NOT, PLEASE VOTE FOR THIS so we can ALL have an easier way to add products to categories.

Magento – Trouble with installation – mcrypt and mhash

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by clicktheo 0n January 13 2008

I’ve been having trouble installing Magento on my shared hosting account with Fasthosts. A quick call and lengthly 30 minute hold to speak to an agent resulted in some annoying news – Fasthosts currently disables mcrypt and mhash on their servers so that they have more resources so that they can (most probably) cram even more people on their servers. I’ve put forward a suggestion for them to offer a repository of software like Magento for their customers, but as I want this setup ASAP I was wondering if there is any workaround so that I can use Magento without mcrypt and mhash.

Fasthosts have told me to get back to them after I receive an answer, and if it isn’t possible for a workaround they will consider enabling mcrypt and mhash on the server that my package is hosted on.

I’ve got by now 277MB data in the directory /downloader/pearlib/download … and after several updates through magento connect, there are multiple versions of packages in this directory.
Now I’m curious if I could delete these files (if they get placed somewhere els after download and install, like the files in /tmp/pear/download), or at least if I may delete older versions if they aren’t used any more.

Magento – Sort by price broken after Magento Connect upgrade to 1.2.0.1

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by mogua 0n January 10 2009

The sort by price function no longer produces a properly “paged” layout.

The official Magento demo store exhibits the same behaviour as can be seen at this link: http://demo.magentocommerce.com/bed-and-bath/living-room?order=price&dir;=asc

The sorting itself works but notice how it only says “1 item” on the top left. In my case it no longer pagenates my list of products.

Magento – Cannot Invoice or Ship items

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by aloeroot 0n January 09 2009

There’s already a thread here that deals with inability to invoice or ship items in 1.1.8 along with a problem with price rules. In that thread someone posted a fix for the price rules, but the problem with invoicing and shipping remains.

In short, I’ve got orders coming into my store but i can’t create invoices or ship orders because there’s no “submit” button on the page anymore. The only options are “back” and “reset”. Not very useful. Any ideas on how to make the functionality return? I already attempted the upgrade to 1.2.0.1 and the entire store crashed, generating 500 errors, so that’s not an option at present considering that today is the launch deadline.

Magento – Does Magento allow order and shipping restrictions by country for specific items on the product level?

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by Wizard Headquarters 0n January 07 2009

I am looking for a store solution that allows me to set up an international store (world wide ordering / shipping from the USA) but allows me to restrict any product by country. I.e. I want to sell an item worldwide but need to exclude countries that don’t allow the import of that specific product (like a vitamin supplement). I need to prevent international shoppers from affected countries being able to place an order in the first place while not restricting buyers from countries where this is allowed.

Magento – Image preview, slider broken after upgrade to 1.2.0.1 – Prototype cause?

Magento is the leading e-commerce platform rapidly gaining in popularity. This magento discussion was started by josep99 0n January 06 2009

I just upgraded to 1.2.0.1 and the image preview and slider are not working anymore.

It seems there is a Javascript error when displaying the product page, and I guess that’s why the image shows blank and the slider does not work at all.

I have noticed that when I activate Prototye Deprecation Log to Yes, the javascript errors disappear, the image shows correctly and the slider kind of works if I press – or +, although I cannot directly move the sliding bar.

Question: is this my problem or a a bug?
What is the function of the Prototype Deprecation Log setting? I can’t find anywhere what it means.
