For many products, in the selling process, it will be useful to offer the customer more information such as Product Videos and Written Documentation (like .PDF documents).

I am using the Modern Theme, and have these suggestions:

1) Setting a Default View in the Detailed Product View

Today, the user can chose between 4 tabs; the ‘Product Description’, ‘We Also Recommend’, ‘Product Tags’ and ‘Additional Information’.

Through the backend, I would like to decide the default tab view (if possible I would like to set that up for each product). For some products I know that the customer will be more interested in the ‘Additional Information’.

I also suggest that the tab ‘Product Tags’ should be the last one, as this probably is the least interesting tab (from a selling point).

2) It should be easy to add several videos and .PDF documents for each product

Through the backend, I would like to have the possibility to add several videos and several .PDF documents to each product (such as User Manuals, Technical Specifications, etc.).

I suggest to implement a fifth tab on the product detail view, and name it the ‘Product support” tab or “Video / documentation” tab (the shop owner should be able to name the label).

Under the new tab, I would like to be able to list something like this:

Video:

Product Demonstration (3 Mb) (updated 14.03.2008)
Maintenance Video (1 Mb) (updated 27.12.2007)

Documents:

Owners Manual, English (1,2 Mb) (rev. 03-2008)
Owners Manual, Norwegian (1,3 Mb) (rev. 01-2007)
Parts Manual, English (723 Kb) (updated 12-2007)

It should be easy to upload the videos and the documents from the backend to the server.

Maybe this is already possible, but is overlooked by me?

I’ve been looking for an open source ecom solution with a solid gift registry system that allows for customers to create gift / wedding registries with quantities for each product and inventory tracking as items get purchased. Is this too complicated a feature for an open source solution?

I have animated gifs of my products. Once uploaded the preview in the backend is still animated.
At the front however the animation is gone. The url used at the front is different from the backend, even though I have cache turned off, it seems this image is cached?

frontend: media/catalog/product/cache/1/image//3/d/3d.gif ( not animated )
backend: media/catalog/product/3/d/3d.gif ( animated )

Any ideas how to show the animated image at the front?

Was thinking of a cool feature (particularly with people reporting poor load times of the ‘Add to Cart’ feature) -
- Use Javascript to perform ‘Add to Cart’
- Trigger an AJAX request to send the cart contents once the ‘Add to Cart’ is clicked.

This way the UI is much faster to the end user and the backend is updated with the Cart content information by the AJAX request. umm … am not sure on how ‘guest’ users are to be handled though!

I know that at some point in the future grouped configurable products are coming, as Yoav mentioned it here: http://www.magentocommerce.com/boards/viewthread/1481/

It is also on the roadmap, but we don’t know how long it will be before this is implemented. Does anyone have any ideas on a work-around for this in the mean time?
I have a bunch of products where grouping will not work, as there are too many basic options and where being configurable doesn’t work either due to pricing issues – the options not being percentages – however a grouped configurable product would work fine.

Any ideas on changes that could be made to the code to enable this would be very, very welcome!

While playing with Transactional Emails I did the following:

System – Transactional Emails – Add New Template – Loaded the “New Invoice” template and click “Preview”

Well, I went to the directory: /app/design/adminhtml/default/default/template/email/order/ and noticed there is no items_invoice.phtml. Ok .. I thought maybe it was not uploaded so I downloaded again magento from this website (zip archive). Unzipped and checked the same directory. The file is not there as well.

I copied app/design/frontend/default/default/template/email/order/items_invoice.phtml to app/design/adminhtml/default/default/template/email/order/ and the error was fixed. A symbolic link would have probably also do the trick.

How come that the file items_invoice.phtml in app/design/adminhtml/default/default/template/email/order/ is missing in the just downloaded .zip archive and apparently is needed? or am I wrong?

I am wondering how to change the sidebar blocks on the home page.

I have seen that the middle content can be changed by editing the page in the CMS part of the admincp, however I haven’t been able to figure out how to edit the sidebar.

I would like to only change the sidebar on that page, thus not affecting other pages.

I can’t access Magento Connect. I get this message every time:

Error: Please check for sufficient write file permissions

I have a dedicated server and configured it to the requirments set by Magento and I keep getting this message.

I have spent a bit of time trying to make it function but I can’t figure it out. I have altered write permissions but stil no luck.

Any Ideas??

I am really pleased about the first stable version 1.0 of Magento which was released few days ago. Immediately I had to install the new stable on our companys server to explore the official release. When I upgraded the previous installation I discovered the new DataFlow-Features and i have to confess, that I did not expected that advancement of it’s import- and export-functionalities.
My previous problems, when I tried to import products based on CVS-files are solved.

As I mentioned in my first topic I published here I am a webdeveloper. Unfortunately nobody had an expedient answer for my questions.

Now I have got a new question, I could imagine, somebody – especially the developers – can answer me.
Is there an opportunity to import and/or export the current orders? My target is to cronjob an export of orders e.g. every hour.
That export-file (maybe XML) will be parsed and interpreted by our webapplications to exchange orderdata between Magento <-> my “exchange-layer”-solution <-> ERP-Backend (e.g. MS Dynamics NAV).

I am looking forward to your suggestions.

I solved this. You HAVE TO delete the MySql database used for any previous Magento Install and recreate a new database fresh.

This solved the problem!

While doing a fresh install of 1.0, after clicking CONTINUE on the page where the Database is defined, in Firefox I get a “REDIRECT LOOP” Error saying: Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

The URL I end up at under the error is:

When I try to go back to the install, it just says the same thing.

In MSIE 7 – I get a basic “CANNOT DISPLAY THIS WEB PAGE” error.

If I actually type “install.php” instead of /install, I get this error from within Magento under MSIE 7 and Firefox:

Error in file: “/home/realstu5/public_html/moodandmind.com/app/code/core/Mage/Sendfriend/sql/sendfriend_setup/mysql4-install-0.7.0.php” – SQLSTATE[42S01]: Base table or view already exists: 1050 Table ‘sendfriend_log’ already exists

When I go to the root of the store (index.php), or the ADMIN I get the same exact errors.

Hopefully there is a way around this without deleting everything and reuploading the whole kit and kaboodle.
